Bulk edit & spreadsheets
Edit hundreds of rows at once — without leaving BillForecast
Open a built-in spreadsheet on transactions, accounts, or recurring bills and edit rows in place with autosave and validation. Google Sheets is still available when you need to review data outside the app.
Bulk edit inside the app
Open the spreadsheet editor on Bulk Edit and work through a month of transactions, an account audit, or a set of recurring bills the way a spreadsheet lets you — fast, with the keyboard, with the whole grid visible.
- Transactions, accounts, and recurring modules
- Autosave with row-level status indicators
- No Google account, no copy-back step
Validation, not blind imports
Every edit goes through the same checks as a manual edit. Invalid category, missing account, impossible amount, malformed date — all caught before they touch the ledger. You see errors inline and only the rows you approve actually save.
- Same validators as manual edits
- Inline error feedback
- Approve-then-save semantics
Google Sheets for the cases that need it
Sometimes a spreadsheet feature you depend on lives in Google Sheets, or someone outside BillForecast needs to review the data first. The Google Sheets workflow stays on the Bulk Edit page: connect, create a review sheet, edit there, preview, apply.
- External review workflow
- OAuth-based and opt-in
- Same preview + apply safety as the in-app editor
How to bulk edit BillForecast data
Use the in-app spreadsheet editor for routine cleanup; fall back to Google Sheets for external review.
Open Bulk Edit
On desktop, open Bulk Edit from the sidebar. Pick the module you want to edit: transactions, accounts, or recurring bills.
Edit rows in the in-app grid
Tab between cells, type or paste new values, and use dropdowns for fixed fields. Autosave commits each row when focus leaves it; toggle it off to batch a set of related edits.
Optional: use Google Sheets for external review
If you need to share data outside BillForecast, connect Google Sheets on the same page, create a review sheet, edit there, then preview and apply the changes back through BillForecast.
Common questions
Straight answers about how this BillForecast workflow fits real planning.
Do I still need Google Sheets to bulk edit my data?
No. The in-app spreadsheet editor on Bulk Edit handles transactions, accounts, and recurring bills directly inside BillForecast — autosave on, validation enforced, no Google account required. Google Sheets stays available for external review workflows, but it is no longer the default path.
Which modules can I bulk edit in the in-app spreadsheet?
Transactions, accounts, and recurring bills. Each opens in its own grid with the editable fields for that module (amount, category, account references, frequency, dates, status flags, and so on).
When should I still use Google Sheets?
Use Google Sheets when you need spreadsheet features the in-app grid does not offer (pivot tables, custom formulas, multi-sheet linking) or when someone outside BillForecast needs to review the data. Otherwise the in-app editor is faster and keeps your data inside the app.
Is the bulk edit safe?
Every save runs through the same validators as manual edits — invalid categories, broken account references, malformed dates, and impossible amounts are rejected before they reach the ledger. The Google Sheets path also previews detected changes before applying anything.
